Google Pixel 10a: Minor Updates Ahead

Early reports on the upcoming Google Pixel 10a mid-range phone paint a less than stellar picture of its specifications.

With the Google Pixel 10 series already on the market, attention is now turning towards the anticipated release of the Pixel 10a in the first half of 2026. Following the success of the Google Pixel 9a, the pressure is on for the new device to deliver.

According to a leak from Mystic Leaks, Google may face some challenges with the Pixel 10a.

Rumors suggest that Google might deviate from its usual strategy of offering flagship-level performance with the Pixel 10a. Instead of equipping the device with the Tensor G5 chip found in the Pixel 10, it is speculated that the Pixel 10a will stick with the Tensor G4 chip used in the Pixel 9a.

One possible explanation for this decision could be the shift to a new production process for the Tensor G5 chip, potentially impacting its viability for a more budget-friendly device.

This choice could also mean missing out on some of the advanced AI features available on the Pixel 10, including the new Magic Cue.

Additionally, the Pixel 10a may continue to utilize UFS 3.1 storage, a slightly older and slower standard compared to the UFS 4.0 found in higher capacity models of the Pixel 10. While this may put the Pixel 10a at a disadvantage in terms of storage speed, it is not entirely unexpected.

It is rumored that the Pixel 10a will not include a telephoto camera, similar to the setup on the Pixel 9a. This decision aligns with Google’s strategy to differentiate its flagship and mid-range offerings.

On a positive note, reports suggest that the Pixel 10a’s display could see an improvement in brightness, reaching up to 2000 nits in high-brightness mode compared to the Pixel 9a’s 1800 nits. This enhancement would bring the Pixel 10a closer to the display quality of the Pixel 10.

If the leaks hold true, the Google Pixel 10a may end up being a modest upgrade over the Pixel 9a, possibly with the addition of Pixelsnap magnetic charging. However, whether this will be enough to entice consumers remains to be seen, especially if Google decides to maintain or lower the device’s price.
