Google has officially started the rollout of its Gemini for TV assistant to the Google TV Streamer streaming box.

There was some concern when Google initially announced that Gemini would only be available on the latest streaming box “this winter.” However, the company is now introducing Gemini for TV to the Google TV Streamer during the autumn season.

According to a recent blog post from Google, the update will be gradually released over the upcoming weeks, starting with users in the US and Canada. Gemini for TV will completely replace Google Assistant on the streaming box, making it accessible through the mic button.

The blog post highlights the potential of Gemini for TV in revolutionizing the user experience. With this feature, users can issue complex commands like “I enjoy dramas but my spouse prefers comedies. Can you suggest a movie for us to watch together?” and receive tailored streaming recommendations from the Google TV Streamer.

One common scenario is the struggle to recall events from previous seasons while starting a new one. Google addresses this by allowing users to ask Gemini questions like “What happened in the last season of ‘Outlander’?” for a quick recap.

If you’re located in North America, follow these steps to enable Gemini For TV on your Google TV Streamer:

1. Access Settings
2. Choose Accounts & Profiles, then your account, and Voice assistant
3. Select Gemini for TV

Google mentions that activating Gemini for TV will automatically extend the feature to all eligible TVs. However, since only the TCL QM9K is currently recognized as an ‘eligible TV,’ the coverage may be limited.
