Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Wearables to Skip One UI 7 Upgrade

Rumors suggest that Samsung may be bypassing One UI 7 for its Galaxy Watch smartwatch lineup.

A recent leak from IposDev (supported by Sammobile) indicates that Samsung might skip One UI 7 Watch and jump straight to One UI 8 Watch later this year.

Reasons for Skipping One UI 7 Watch

The current Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 runs on One UI 6 Watch, with WearOS 5 as its foundation.

Launched in July 2024 alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6, the software on the Galaxy Watch 7 has fallen out of sync with the company’s other smart devices.

Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series in January, Samsung’s top smartphones now operate on a full version of One UI 7.

Sources suggest that Samsung aims to align its wearable range with its smartphones, hence the decision to potentially skip One UI 7 Watch and move directly to One UI 8 for the next major smartwatch OS update.

Insights on One UI 8 Watch

While details about Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch UI remain scarce, there is a clear emphasis on certain aspects.

During a recent earnings call, Samsung’s executive Daniel Araujo hinted that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 (expected to run One UI 8 Watch) will offer “enhanced health-related features” and a strong focus on artificial intelligence.

The new watch is expected to showcase “an innovative design,” with indications pointing towards the return of the Classic model featuring a rotating bezel. This would mark the first Classic model since the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic in 2023.
