Google Pixel smartphones are known for their impressive features, with ‘Now Playing’ being a standout favorite for many users. A recent report suggests that this already handy feature could be getting even better in the near future. Let’s explore the potential upgrades that may be coming to Google Pixel phones.

‘Now Playing’ has been a popular feature since its introduction in 2017, allowing users to effortlessly identify songs playing in their surroundings without the need for an internet connection. This sets it apart from other music recognition apps like Shazam. However, one drawback has been the limited information displayed on the lock screen, which only provides basic details such as the song title and artist.

A new version of ‘Now Playing’ has been spotted in an early build of upcoming Pixel software, hinting at exciting upgrades. This new version includes album artwork, similar to the media controls found in the notification shade. Additionally, users can now add songs to their favorites with a single tap, enhancing the overall user experience.

While these new features are promising, there is no guarantee that they will be rolled out to all Pixel devices soon. The current version is only available in the experimental ‘Android Canary’ program, and not all features make it to the final release. Nevertheless, it would be exciting to see Google continue to improve a feature that has remained relatively unchanged for the past eight years.

Aside from the addition of album artwork, it is crucial for Google to address the functionality issues that ‘Now Playing’ has been facing. Currently, the feature struggles to identify songs accurately, especially with new releases. Enhancing the song-detecting capabilities would truly elevate this feature and make it a game-changer for users.
