I recently had the opportunity to preview the new Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smartglasses at Meta Connect 2025, and I was impressed by the upgrades and improvements they offer. The new smartglasses combine the best features of Meta’s Oakley glasses with the diverse frame options of Ray-Ban, resulting in a more versatile and stylish product lineup.
One of the key enhancements of the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smartglasses is the longer battery life, with new “steelcan” batteries offering up to twice the battery life compared to the previous generation. The improved battery performance allows for up to 5 hours of continuous audio playback or up to 8 hours of mixed use, with a 50% faster charging time of just 20 minutes.
In terms of video capture capabilities, the new smartglasses feature a 12Mp camera that can now capture 3K video at 30fps, as well as slow motion and hyperlapse video options. The microphone performance has also been upgraded with a wind-noise reduction algorithm, enhancing call clarity and voice command recognition.
The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smartglasses offer a variety of frame styles to choose from, with 27 new frame/lens combinations available, including limited-run seasonal color options. The pricing for the new smartglasses starts at £379/$379/€419, with the previous generation Meta Ray-Bans still available at £299/$299/€329.
Overall, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smartglasses may not have revolutionary changes, but the enhancements in battery life, camera capabilities, and style options make them a compelling choice for users looking for a versatile and user-friendly wearable device. I look forward to experiencing the full potential of these next-gen smartglasses and exploring the future features that Meta has planned for them.
