Returning to the Pixel 10 Pro XL after a three-month hiatus has left me with a single regret: why didn’t I make the switch sooner? The journey back to Google’s latest flagship device has been a revelation, reminding me of the features and functionalities that I had been missing out on. From the seamless software experience to the impressive camera capabilities, here are the key highlights of my reacquaintance with the Pixel 10 Pro XL.

Having recently made the transition back to the Pixel 10 Pro XL after a brief hiatus, I find myself pondering why I didn’t make the switch sooner. Following my in-depth review of Google’s flagship device in August, I continued to use it as my daily driver for a few more weeks. However, as is customary for a phone reviewer, I had to switch to other devices temporarily. First up was the lackluster Motorola Edge 70, followed closely by the Poco F8 Ultra. While the F8 Ultra impressed me with its value proposition, it fell short in certain areas, particularly on the software front. Despite my growing frustration with its usability, I persisted with the F8 Ultra for over five weeks post my review.

So, what was the reason behind my reluctance to switch back to the Pixel 10 Pro XL? Simply put, I didn’t feel motivated enough to make the change. However, upon returning to the Pixel 10 Pro XL last week, I quickly realized the numerous benefits it offered and how much I had missed using it.

Rediscovering the Familiarity of Pixel Software

Reacquainting myself with the Pixel software felt like coming home after an extended journey. The familiarity of the user interface, coupled with the absence of bloatware and the inclusion of powerful Pixel-exclusive features such as Now Playing and Call Screen, made the experience a joyous one. Android 16, in my opinion, shines brightest on Pixel devices, offering a seamless and intuitive user experience. Despite my previous preference for Samsung’s One UI, I have come to appreciate the refined software experience that the Pixel 10 Pro XL provides.

The integration of AI features and the promise of regular updates for the next six years further solidify my admiration for the Pixel software ecosystem. While I may not utilize all AI functionalities extensively, the overall software experience on the Pixel 10 Pro XL is unmatched.

Appreciating the Understated Design

Initially drawn to the flashy design of the Poco F8 Ultra, I soon developed an appreciation for the understated elegance of the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s design. The sleek and distinctive aesthetics, coupled with a matte coating on the rear that resists fingerprint smudges, make the device visually appealing. Additionally, the IP68 water and dust resistance rating ensure the device’s durability, maintaining its pristine condition even after prolonged use.

Despite its unassuming appearance, the Pixel 10 Pro XL exudes a sense of sophistication that transcends flashy colors and gimmicky design elements. The device’s timeless design language and robust build quality make it a standout choice for users seeking a combination of style and durability.

Exploring the Versatile Camera Capabilities

While I may not be a photography enthusiast, the camera experience on the Pixel 10 Pro XL has consistently impressed me. The device’s main camera consistently delivers crisp and detailed images across various lighting conditions, ensuring reliable performance in every scenario. The inclusion of a 5x telephoto lens and an ultrawide lens further expands the device’s photographic capabilities, offering versatility in capturing different perspectives.

Features such as portrait mode and Night Sight enhance the creative possibilities for users, allowing them to capture stunning images with artistic depth and clarity. The comprehensive camera system on the Pixel 10 Pro XL, while not the absolute best in the market, offers a well-rounded photography experience that caters to a wide range of user preferences.

Embracing the Convenience of 3D Face Unlock

The seamless integration of 3D face unlock on the Pixel 10 Pro XL has been a game-changer in terms of device security and convenience. The lightning-fast and reliable face unlock feature not only simplifies the device unlocking process but also enhances the overall user experience. From secure authentication for online transactions to effortless app logins, the face unlock functionality on the Pixel 10 Pro XL offers a seamless and intuitive way to interact with the device.

While the device also features an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication, the convenience and speed of face unlock make it the preferred choice for most users. The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s face unlock feature exemplifies Google’s commitment to enhancing user convenience and security through innovative biometric technologies.

Dispelling Performance Myths

Amidst speculations about the performance capabilities of Google’s Tensor G5 chipset, the real-world performance of the Pixel 10 Pro XL has exceeded my expectations. While benchmark tests may indicate disparities compared to other flagship chipsets, the device’s day-to-day performance has been smooth, responsive, and reliable. As a user who prioritizes everyday usability over synthetic benchmarks, the Pixel 10 Pro XL has delivered exceptional performance across various tasks and applications.

Despite the ongoing debate about chipset performance, the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s seamless multitasking capabilities and responsive user interface have made it a reliable companion for daily use. While some users may seek higher performance benchmarks in a flagship device, the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s real-world performance merits recognition for its consistency and efficiency.

Navigating the Weighty Terrain

One noticeable drawback of the Pixel 10 Pro XL is its substantial weight, which can be cumbersome for extended one-handed usage. Weighing in at 232g, the device ranks among the heavier non-folding smartphones in the market, posing a challenge for users seeking a lightweight and ergonomic device. The addition of a protective case further contributes to the overall heft of the device, making it less ideal for prolonged usage without discomfort.

While the device’s weight may deter some users, opting for the standard Pixel 10 model offers a more lightweight alternative without compromising on essential features and functionalities. The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s weighty build may pose a minor inconvenience for users prioritizing portability and ease of use, prompting them to explore lighter smartphone options.

Reflecting on a Reintroduction to Excellence

As I reacquaint myself with the Pixel 10 Pro XL, I am reminded of its numerous merits and standout features that make it a top contender in the smartphone market. From its stunning 6.8-inch display to its rapid 45W wired charging capabilities, the device offers a comprehensive set of features that cater to diverse user needs. Awarded as the best phone by Tech Advisor in the year-end awards, the Pixel 10 Pro XL continues to impress with its blend of performance, design, and innovation.

Looking ahead to 2026, the competition in the smartphone landscape is poised to intensify with the introduction of new flagship devices such as the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 11 series. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s enduring appeal and exceptional user experience position it as a formidable contender in the ever-evolving smartphone market.
