Just before the highly anticipated launch of the Apple Watch Ultra 3, Garmin has stolen the spotlight with the surprise introduction of the powerful Garmin Fenix 8 Pro.
The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro is making waves as the first smartwatch from Garmin to feature a cutting-edge MicroLED display. With a peak brightness of 4500 nits, this display surpasses the capabilities of standard AMOLED technology, setting a new standard in the smartwatch industry. This advancement not only outshines the 1000 nits peak brightness of the standard Garmin Fenix 8 but also exceeds the 3000 nits cap of the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
While rumors suggested that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 would also feature a MicroLED display, Garmin has taken the lead with the world-first release of the Fenix 8 Pro, leaving Apple fans eagerly awaiting future updates.
In addition to the impressive display upgrade, Garmin has integrated its inReach satellite technology into the Fenix 8 Pro, allowing users to send text and voice messages even in remote areas without network coverage. Previously, Garmin users had to purchase separate inReach communicators to access these features.
One standout feature of the Fenix 8 Pro is the built-in SOS function, which enables users to contact emergency services in case of emergencies, providing added safety during outdoor adventures.

Still a marathon runner
Another groundbreaking feature of the Fenix 8 Pro is its LTE connectivity, allowing users to stay connected even without their smartphones during activities like running. The watch enables users to make calls, check weather forecasts, and more directly from their wrists.
Despite the advanced display technology, Garmin ensures that the Fenix 8 Pro maintains impressive battery life, offering up to 10 days of use on a single charge. While this falls slightly short of the 16-day battery life of the 47mm Fenix 8, it remains a commendable feat.
The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro will be available in two sizes, 47mm and 51mm, with the larger model featuring the MicroLED display and the smaller model equipped with AMOLED. Both variants are set for release on 8 September, just ahead of Apple’s iPhone 17 launch event.
Apple will seem cheap in comparison
The primary consideration for potential buyers may be the price tag of the MicroLED model, priced at £1,729.99. While the standard Fenix 8 comes at a more affordable price point, the allure of the brighter display on the 47mm AMOLED Fenix 8 Pro may sway consumers towards the premium model.
Comparatively, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is expected to retail at a similar price to its predecessor, around £800/$800. Despite potential price increases from Apple, the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro’s cutting-edge features may position it as a premium choice for tech enthusiasts.
Garmin’s innovative Fenix 8 Pro has certainly set a new benchmark in the smartwatch market, overshadowing the upcoming release of the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
