The upcoming HBO series is situated between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, focusing on the escapades of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, rather than delving into the historical wars and conflicts between noble houses.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms plot
The new Game of Thrones prequel is based on Tales of Dunk and Egg, a collection of three stories by George R.R. Martin. It follows the journeys and exploits of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his youthful squire, Egg (later King Aegon V Targaryen).
Set 72 years after House of the Dragon and 90 years before Game of Thrones, the Tales encompass three narratives, with the first season expected to focus on the initial story, The Hedge Knight. This tale depicts Dunk and Egg’s encounter and the knight’s clash with Prince Aerion Targaryen.
The official series description reads:
A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naive but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an era when the Targaryen dynasty still rules the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon remains vivid, great destinies, formidable foes, and daring exploits await these improbable and extraordinary friends.

George R.R. Martin himself has described The Hedge Knight as reminiscent of Game of Thrones:
The Dunk & Egg novellas are fully-fleshed narratives more like the novels of A Song of Ice & Fire than the historical accounts of Fire & Blood. The stories are richly detailed on the page, and our aim is to create faithful adaptations of these tales for the screen.

Delve into the past with the prequel 10,000 Ships, which follows the courageous Princess Nymeria on her quest for refuge after the Valyrian conquest of her kingdom. Witness her epic voyage to Dorne, where she forges alliances and reshapes the course of history by marrying into House Martell.
For fans craving more fantastical adventures, HBO is developing an animated series set in Yi Ti, a mystical land in Essos reminiscent of medieval China. Explore the rich tapestry of cultures and mythologies in this lush jungle-covered country, as new tales of intrigue and magic unfold.
