Armada, a company specializing in edge computing infrastructure, has recently secured a $131M strategic funding round to expand the production of Leviathan, their latest megawatt-scale modular data center (MDC). This new MDC, designed for rapid deployment and flexibility, offers significantly more compute power than previous models and can operate in remote locations using alternative energy sources like natural gas, solar, or nuclear.

Armada’s Leviathan MDC aims to bolster U.S. leadership in energy and AI by facilitating distributed AI training and inference in challenging environments where communication is limited. According to Dan Wright, Armada’s CEO, Leviathan is a game-changer in the industry, providing megawatt-scale performance in a fraction of the time compared to traditional data centers. The product is part of Armada’s Galleon product line and is powered by the Armada Edge Platform (AEP), enabling scalable, autonomous compute capabilities.

To maintain U.S. dominance in the global AI race and counter China’s efforts in AI and energy supply chains, Armada emphasizes the crucial link between energy and compute. Strategic partnerships with organizations like Fidelis New Energy and Bakken Energy will aid in deploying Leviathans in key U.S. locations with surplus power. Armada envisions providing sovereign, distributed AI infrastructure to facilitate rapid deployment and bridge the digital divide in industrial and remote settings.
