Computer science luminary Ed Lazowska has bid farewell to his long-standing role at the University of Washington after nearly fifty years of service. Despite his retirement, Lazowska remains active in various community projects, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the field of computer science and education.

Do not worry, the tech community has not seen the last of Ed Lazowska.

After spending almost fifty years in the realm of computer science at the University of Washington, predating the arrival of Microsoft in the Seattle area, the esteemed advocate of the UW’s Allen School has officially retired from his university duties at the age of 75, as promised to his family.

However, his retirement does not mark the end of his contributions. The veteran computer science professor and expert in distributed systems will continue to engage in various community initiatives, such as co-teaching a popular entrepreneurship course at UW with Greg Gottesman from Pioneer Square Labs, chairing PSL’s advisory board, and serving on the board of the Allen Institute for AI.

Despite stepping back from official responsibilities, Lazowska remains dedicated to tackling significant challenges and contributing to impactful projects in the tech and education sectors.

Stay tuned for more insights from Lazowska as he reflects on his illustrious career, the evolving tech landscape, the growth of Seattle, and the future of education in the era of artificial intelligence, in an exclusive interview on the GeekWire Podcast.
