Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena is embracing sustainability with a new reusable cup program introduced by Bold Reuse, a startup based in Portland. The initiative aims to reduce waste at sports and entertainment events held at the venue.
The innovative reusable cups from Bold Reuse will make their debut at the upcoming Seattle Storm WNBA game, allowing fans to enjoy their beverages in durable cups that can be returned for reuse. Bold Reuse collects, sanitizes, and redistributes the cups, ensuring a seamless and environmentally friendly cycle.
This eco-friendly approach will be adopted at all events hosted at Climate Pledge Arena, replacing the previous use of recyclable aluminum cups. The venue has been recognized for its sustainability efforts, becoming the world’s first sports stadium to achieve Zero Carbon certification in 2023.
Named after The Climate Pledge initiative led by Amazon and Global Optimism, Climate Pledge Arena is committed to promoting net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Bold Reuse, formerly known as GO Box, expanded its operations to Seattle in 2024 and established a state-of-the-art dishwashing facility in the city.
In collaboration with Avery Dennison, Bold Reuse recently launched a pilot program utilizing RFID technology to track the lifecycle of reusable cups. This initiative aims to enhance tracking efficiency from distribution to end-of-life stages, ensuring a sustainable approach to waste management.
Furthermore, Bold Reuse has partnered with the Kansas City Chiefs, making them the first NFL team to implement reusable cups stadium-wide. Other venues in Seattle, such as Woodland Park Zoo and SIFF Cinema Downtown, have also embraced reusable cups from r.World, contributing to a greener and more sustainable event experience.
