Scaling up: Arelion’s Strategic Moves in the Scandinavian AI Market
SHARE
Arelion has recently announced a significant investment in its fibre infrastructure across Scandinavia to meet the growing demands of the AI market in the region. By upgrading its network with high-fibre count cables between Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen, Arelion aims to strengthen its position as a leading provider in the Nordic fibre sector. This investment will not only enhance connectivity within the region but also facilitate direct links to Europe, North America, and beyond, ensuring long-term fibre availability and network resilience in the Nordics.

Arelion, formerly known as Telia International Carrier, has been laying the groundwork for its Scandinavian network for over 25 years. The recent upgrade is just the beginning of a series of planned investments to enhance customer connectivity and offer a wide range of services, including scalable IP Transit, Wavelengths, Dedicated Internet Access, Cloud Connect, Global Ethernet Virtual Circuit, and DDoS Mitigation.

Scandinavia has emerged as a strategic hub for data centers due to its abundant land, sustainable energy sources, and stable energy pricing. Oslo, in particular, boasts a substantial data center capacity of 423 MW, with projections indicating a significant annual growth rate. The local data center construction market is forecasted to reach $7.38 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.47%.

The region’s AI market is also thriving, with a projected CAGR of 26.24%, expected to reach $19.90 billion by 2031. Arelion’s network upgrade is scheduled to be completed by 2026, with plans for further expansion in 2027 to meet the increasing demand for AI infrastructure in Scandinavia.

As part of the modernization efforts, Arelion is connecting hyperscale data centers through newly built local infrastructure and expanding its fibre network within existing ducts. With a significant capacity in Nordic ducts, the introduction of high-fiber count cables between major cities like Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen will further enhance connectivity and support the region’s digital transformation.

With a strong focus on enhancing customer experience and meeting the evolving demands of the market, Arelion’s investment in its Scandinavian network underscores its commitment to providing reliable and diverse services to users across the region and beyond.
