Neterra’s Forecast: The Rising Threat of DDoS Attacks in 2025
SHARE

Global telecom operator and IT services provider Neterra has recently reported a significant increase in the frequency and complexity of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in the first half of 2025. In the first six months of the year, the company successfully thwarted 77,765 attacks, surpassing the total number of incidents mitigated in 2024.

This surge in DDoS attacks highlights the evolving tactics of cybercriminals, with SYN Short attacks emerging as the primary method of assault in 2025. These attacks, which utilize smaller data packets to evade traditional defense mechanisms, present new challenges for cybersecurity professionals. Neterra observed a substantial increase in packet-per-second peaks, with attacks peaking at over 38 million packets per second and bandwidth volumes reaching 30 Gbps.

Neterra’s Chief Technology Officer, Pavel Marchev, emphasized the importance of ongoing investment in advanced security technologies to combat the growing threat of DDoS attacks. These attacks not only disrupt services but also pose a significant risk to business continuity. As the cybersecurity landscape evolves, organizations must prioritize adaptive defense strategies to mitigate the impact of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
