OpenAI made an announcement on Tuesday regarding its ambitious plan to construct five new AI data centers in collaboration with Oracle and SoftBank as part of the Stargate project. These cutting-edge data centers will significantly expand Stargate’s capacity to seven gigawatts, enough to power over five million households.
The partnership with Oracle will see three new sites being developed in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and a mystery location in the Midwest. On the other hand, SoftBank is involved in the development of two sites located in Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas.
This strategic move by OpenAI to establish new Stargate AI data centers is a crucial part of its ongoing infrastructure expansion efforts aimed at training and deploying more advanced AI models. Just recently, OpenAI secured a significant $100 billion investment from Nvidia to acquire the chipmaker’s cutting-edge AI processors and further enhance its AI data center network.
