QTS Begins Site Preparation for Hyperscale Data Centre Campus in Northumberland
QTS has kicked off site preparation for a massive hyperscale data centre campus in Cambois, Northumberland. The project, backed by funds managed by Blackstone affiliates, is set to scale up to 720MW across 10 facilities, attracting an estimated £10 billion in investments. This initiative follows the approval for enabling works in August, marking a significant milestone for the region.
Creating Jobs and Fostering Growth in the North East
The data centre campus is expected to generate thousands of job opportunities in the North East, positioning the region as an AI Growth Zone. The project has received National Skills Academy for Construction status from CITB, emphasizing its focus on workforce development and skill enhancement. This strategic approach aligns with the goal of boosting economic growth and innovation in the area.
Commitment to Community Development and Economic Empowerment
QTS has pledged to address higher-than-average unemployment rates and economic inactivity in the North East by creating over 1,000 new jobs. With a target to fill 50% of roles locally, the project aims to provide apprenticeships, training programs, internships, and work placements to support the local workforce. Additionally, the initiative includes investments in the local supply chain and partnerships with small businesses to foster economic growth and sustainability in the region.
