Google has unveiled its plans to establish an AI and data center hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking its first AI-focused facility in India. This initiative is part of a $15 billion investment strategy spanning from 2026 to 2030, aiming to integrate large-scale compute capacity, renewable energy infrastructure, and expanded fiber connectivity to support AI-driven workloads and digital services in India and global markets.

The project, developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Indian telco Airtel, is set to deliver significant computing power and will function as both a regional cloud hub and an AI research and deployment center. It will leverage technology from Google’s R&D sites in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune, while also becoming part of Google’s worldwide network of AI data centers across 12 countries.

The article emphasizes the significant growth of India’s data center market, fueled by digitalization, cloud adoption, and government incentives. With over 130 operational data centers and plans for 35 more facilities, the country is on track to expand its data center capacity by 77% in the next four years. Noteworthy developments include Reliance Industries’ 3 GW data center in Jamnagar and Anant Raj’s $2.1 billion investment in Haryana to build two data centers.

Furthermore, Google’s expansion efforts at home in the US are highlighted, with a $9 billion investment plan in Virginia focusing on cloud and AI infrastructure. Initiatives include new data center constructions in Chesterfield County and Stillwater, Oklahoma, along with a $600 million expansion at Google’s The Dalles campus in Oregon. Additionally, a nuclear power partnership with Kairos Power and the Tennessee Valley Authority aims to meet the rising energy demands of Google’s data centers driven by AI growth.
