In a groundbreaking move, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Ericsson have joined forces to tackle the challenge of ensuring seamless performance across multi-vendor 5G infrastructure. The creation of a joint validation lab will enable telecommunications service providers to deploy and manage complex, cloud-native 5G networks with greater speed, security, and interoperability.

This collaboration between HPE and Ericsson signifies a significant milestone in bridging the gap between traditional IT infrastructure and telecommunications networks. As operators worldwide race to upgrade core systems to handle data-intensive, latency-sensitive applications driven by AI, IoT, and edge computing, the need for efficient integration of diverse hardware and software components has become paramount.

The joint lab, located near Ericsson’s headquarters in Sweden, will serve as a testing ground for integrating and validating a dual-mode 5G core solution that combines Ericsson’s telecom software with HPE’s cutting-edge compute and networking platforms, orchestrated through Red Hat’s OpenShift cloud-native infrastructure. Scheduled for full operation by the end of 2025, the lab aims to validate commercial solutions by early 2026, offering telco service providers a streamlined deployment process and the ability to scale dynamically to keep pace with evolving technologies.
