Meta Platforms is making a significant investment of over $1 billion in constructing a data center in Wisconsin dedicated to powering artificial intelligence initiatives. This move underscores the tech giant’s commitment to staying ahead in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

The upcoming 700,000 sq.ft data center in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, is slated to become operational by 2027, generating approximately 100 full-time positions, as disclosed by Meta in a recent announcement. Collaborating with local utility provider Alliant Energy, Meta will also finance $200 million in energy infrastructure enhancements, including transmission lines and network upgrades, to support the facility.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, has emphasized the importance of robust AI infrastructure by pledging substantial investments in this area. With plans to inject $600 billion into the US by 2028, Meta’s focus lies on bolstering its hardware capabilities, such as chips, data centers, and related equipment.

In addition to Wisconsin, Meta is also constructing gigawatt-sized data centers in states like Ohio, Texas, and Louisiana. This strategic move aligns with the company’s vision of preparing for the advent of “superintelligence,” an advanced form of AI capable of surpassing human capabilities in various tasks.
