Peter Tsiamalili, the acting minister for information and communications technology in Papua New Guinea, announced that the project will involve two cables providing connectivity to both northern and southern regions of the country, as well as a third cable to Bougainville, an autonomous territory. This infrastructure upgrade aims to improve nationwide connectivity, reduce vulnerabilities, and expand access to underserved areas like Bougainville.
The enhanced connectivity is expected to attract investments from major tech companies and boost Papua New Guinea’s digital infrastructure. This development will not only strengthen the country’s network resilience but also facilitate economic growth and development in remote regions.
