In the latest update from WatchGuard, they have released patches for several versions of their Firebox appliances to address a critical vulnerability. However, simply patching may not be sufficient in all cases, as certain configurations could still leave the system vulnerable. Admins are advised to take additional precautions, especially if threat actor activity has been confirmed on their Firebox appliances.

This is not the first time WatchGuard has had to issue patches for a critical vulnerability in their Firebox appliances. A similar issue was patched back in September, highlighting the importance of staying vigilant and not underestimating the severity of vulnerabilities in firewall and VPN systems. Cybercriminals often target these systems, making it crucial for organizations to prioritize security updates.

Despite the urgency of these patches, some WatchGuard customers have been slow to apply them. A recent scan by The Shadowserver Foundation revealed that thousands of Firebox appliances had not yet been patched for a previous vulnerability. This serves as a reminder of the importance of timely patching to protect against potential cyber threats and attacks.
