Local authorities in Illinois have announced charges against a driver involved in a tragic incident where a pedestrian was fatally struck while livestreaming on TikTok.

According to a report by The New York Times, Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, known as Tea Tyme on TikTok, is facing charges of reckless homicide and aggravated use of a communications device resulting in death as per the Zion Police Department.

A disturbing video circulating on TikTok captured the moment when Tea Tyme, while filming on her phone, heard a loud impact followed by a chilling admission of hitting someone. The tragic incident took the life of Darren Lucas, who was fatally struck by McCarty-Wroten’s vehicle at an intersection where she allegedly disregarded a red light without slowing down or altering her course, as confirmed by surveillance footage.

In response to the charges, McCarty-Wroten’s legal counsel has emphasized that the incident was a result of negligence rather than intentional or reckless behavior, indicating that the evidence will support their defense in court.
