The renowned South Korean tech company, Samsung, has unveiled plans to equip their wearable devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 and Samsung Galaxy Ring, with the capability to identify subtle changes in mobility, speech patterns, and user engagement that could indicate potential cognitive decline over time.
According to Praveen Raja, Samsung’s Vice President and Head of Digital Health, the upcoming features on devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring will be able to recognize signs like slurred speech during interactions with the company’s Bixby virtual assistant.

Additionally, these innovative wearable devices will be able to detect changes in the user’s movement patterns and interactions with other smart home devices, serving as an early warning system to prompt individuals to seek medical assistance rather than providing a definitive diagnosis.
Previously hinted as part of a new “Brain Health” feature, this technology is nearing its final stages of development, as reported by South Korea’s Chosun Biz. The feature is expected to incorporate brain training activities aimed at reducing the risk of developing dementia, with Samsung Knox ensuring that all sensitive health data is securely managed locally rather than being stored in the cloud.
