Redcentric Completes Multi-Million-Pound Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade at Heathrow Data Centre
Managed IT service provider Redcentric has recently finished a significant electrical infrastructure upgrade at its data centre located in Heathrow Corporate Park, London. This upgrade was part of a larger refurbishment project aimed at improving the facility’s efficiency and sustainability.
Key Points:
- The project, which included replacing the UPS, was partially funded through the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) to support businesses in transitioning to a low-carbon future.
- Redcentric partnered with leading UPS manufacturer CENTIEL to deploy their highly efficient StratusPowerTM modular UPS technology, enabling the facility to scale up to 10.5 megawatts without additional infrastructure changes.
- The upgraded facility now boasts UPS efficiency improvements from below 90% to above 97%, potentially reducing over 8,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the next 15 years.
Environmental Impact and Future Plans
Redcentric’s Data Centre Facilities Director, Paul Hone, highlighted the environmental benefits of the upgrade, with the facility now powered by 100% renewable energy sources. The company is committed to offering its clients a 100% uptime guarantee and plans to deploy an additional 12 megawatts of power protection in 2026 to support future AI workloads.
Aaron Oddy, Sales Manager at Centiel, emphasized the efficiency and cost savings achieved through the deployment of StratusPower UPS systems. The new technology not only reduces the data centre’s carbon footprint but also enhances resilience and availability for clients.
Partnering for Success
The installation was completed by Durata, a leader in modular data centre solutions, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Redcentric praised the ease of deployment and maintenance of the new UPS systems, highlighting the potential for future collaboration with Centiel to enhance power protection at other sites.
This successful upgrade not only improves the data centre’s operational efficiency but also demonstrates Redcentric’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the IT infrastructure sector.
