Apple has officially unveiled the latest iteration of its AirTag tracker, confirming the rumors that had been circulating. The newest version, simply referred to as the ‘new AirTag’ by Apple, boasts several upgrades compared to its predecessor.
Apple has opted for the name ‘new AirTag’ rather than AirTag 2, but regardless of the title, the physical appearance remains unchanged from the original model. However, numerous enhancements have been introduced.
For frequent travelers and those who rely on locating their belongings efficiently, there are three compelling reasons to consider upgrading from the initial AirTag released in 2021.
Enhanced Precision & Range
The latest AirTag simplifies the process of locating your items, whether it’s your keys, bag, or any other valuables. This is made possible by the inclusion of the Ultra Wideband chip, present in devices like the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Ultra 3, along with an upgraded Bluetooth chip.
Apple claims that this advancement allows users to track items from a distance that is up to 50% greater than before.

Precision Finding aids in guiding you to the precise location of your item through a combination of haptic, visual, and audio feedback. Additionally, Precision Finding is now accessible on the Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later.
Increased Audibility
Regarding audio capabilities, the AirTag 2 features a sound that is twice as loud as its predecessor, making it easier to pinpoint the device’s location by sound alone.
With a distinctive new chime, Apple ensures that the AirTag 2 can be heard from a distance that is twice as far as before.

Enhanced Security
Apple has incorporated a range of innovative safeguards into this year’s AirTag tracker to prevent unwanted tracking, including cross-platform alerts and dynamic Bluetooth identifiers that change regularly.
The device has been meticulously designed to safeguard the privacy of location data, with a focus on preventing potential hacking attempts.
Pricing for AirTag 2
The all-new AirTag (2026) is now available for purchase at the same price point as its predecessor.
This means that a single AirTag is priced at £29/$29, while a four-pack can be purchased for £99/$99, with the option for complimentary personalized engraving.
