Orion DataGuard, a cutting-edge security screening room for data centres, has been unveiled by Orion Entrance Control. This fully automated system, powered by artificial intelligence, is specifically tailored for hyperscale and enterprise environments. With the surge in AI technologies driving the expansion of computing infrastructure, data centre operators are now prioritizing physical security measures to safeguard their server capacity effectively.

Orion Entrance Control has introduced a state-of-the-art security solution known as Orion DataGuard, designed to meet the security needs of hyperscale and enterprise data centre environments. As the demand for compute infrastructure continues to grow with the advancement of artificial intelligence, there is a heightened emphasis on enhancing physical security around server capacity.

The rapid expansion of AI-driven technologies has led to an increase in the number of data centre facilities, access points, and remote operations like edge deployments and dark data centres. This shift has made traditional security methods such as manual inspections and legacy mantrap systems challenging to scale, prompting data centre operators to explore more automated security models.

As operators expand their operations to include large-scale, gigawatt-class campuses, security teams are faced with managing higher volumes of personnel, equipment, and entry points while also controlling staffing and operational costs across multiple buildings and campuses. According to John Bekisz, VP of Data Center & Critical Infrastructure Practice at Guidepost Solutions LLC, the evolving growth and threat landscapes are reshaping data centre security requirements.

Orion DataGuard integrates various security functions, including ID verification, biometric authentication, weapons and digital-media detection, and AI/LiDAR-based tailgating prevention through Orion DoorGuard, into a streamlined and automated entry workflow for data centre access points. This encompasses data halls, secure corridors, and infrastructure zones. All screening events are meticulously logged and monitored through Orion Infinity to facilitate audit and compliance procedures.

Steve Caroselli, the CEO of Orion Entrance Control, emphasized that automation enables physical security to scale seamlessly alongside infrastructure growth without necessitating a proportional increase in staffing or manual inspection processes.

The system leverages technologies from key partners such as Commend Americas, essentry, Rohde & Schwarz America, Suprema, and Traka ASSA ABLOY. To prevent vendor lock-in, the design supports multiple partners per category, offering flexibility and adaptability. Its modular design allows for deployment in new facilities and retrofits, enabling operators to standardize entry processes across their expanding data centre portfolios.

Orion DataGuard is tailored for data centre operators supporting AI-driven infrastructure expansion, hyperscale environments, and accelerated deployment timelines.
