Amazon is facing challenges in securing rides for its Amazon Leo broadband internet satellites, prompting the company to request an extension from the Federal Communications Commission. The extension, if granted, would give Amazon until July 30, 2028, to deploy half of its 3,232 satellites in low Earth orbit, as opposed to the original deadline of July 30, 2026. The company has invested over $10 billion in its Leo constellation and has encountered difficulties due to launch availability constraints and unexpected delays in satellite production.

Amazon finds it challenging to secure rides for its Amazon Leo broadband internet satellites, leading the company to request an extension from the Federal Communications Commission. The extension sought would allow Amazon until July 30, 2028, to deploy half of its 3,232 satellites in low Earth orbit, a shift from the initial deadline of July 30, 2026. With investments exceeding $10 billion in its Leo constellation, Amazon has faced obstacles such as launch availability shortages and disruptions in satellite production.
