Enhancing Data Centre Growth with Atos and National Grid’s Triton Tool

The growth of data centres is facing a challenge in terms of grid capacity, but a new solution from Atos and National Grid could provide a way forward.

Atos and National Grid have introduced Triton, a cutting-edge platform designed to offer National Grid improved visibility into future demand across the network and enable quicker scenario modeling.

Triton serves as a digital twin and data visualization tool that creates a virtual replica of National Grid’s physical infrastructure and integrates it with demand forecasts. This allows planners to anticipate demand growth at grid supply points and transmission substations, identifying potential bottlenecks and prioritizing necessary reinforcements.

One key benefit for the data centre sector is Triton’s ability to support the assessment of future customer connections, like data centres, by evaluating local and regional network capacity. This tool can help data centre operators make more informed decisions about site selection and understand the grid upgrades needed to accommodate their facilities.

According to National Grid, Triton can streamline decision-making processes by reducing the time needed to analyze options and determine network reinforcements by up to 70%. This efficiency could significantly impact data centre delivery schedules, reducing uncertainty and accelerating the time-to-power process.

Overall, Triton represents a step forward in leveraging innovation, data, and technology to drive positive change and support National Grid’s decarbonization goals. By enabling faster scenario modeling and decision-making, Triton offers a valuable tool for planning the expansion of the electricity network to meet increasing energy demands.
