Amazon Web Services has introduced two new credit programs totaling up to $100 million to aid federal agencies in utilizing AWS cloud services and generative AI technologies for various applications, including battle management and quantum computing.

The AWS Warfighter Capability Accelerator Initiative has been launched to offer credits to the U.S. Department of Defense, defense industrial base, and private contractors. These credits can be used for applications such as AI and autonomous systems, AI-enabled battle management, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and shipbuilding, among others.

David Fitzgerald, Deputy Undersecretary of the Army, expressed excitement about the initiatives and their potential to address the Department of War’s most critical challenges in a recent AWS blog post.

Another initiative, the AWS Genesis Accelerator Initiative, will provide support to scientific research conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy, including the National Nuclear Security Administration and associated national laboratories. Research areas of focus include biotechnology, nuclear energy, supercomputing, and quantum information science.

Both initiatives will offer up to $50 million in credits over the next three years for access to AWS cloud technology, training, and technical support. Additional information can be found on AWS’s government accelerator initiatives web portal.
