BCS Consultancy, an internationally recognized data center consulting firm, has recently published its most recent study, Data Center Realities 2026: The Essentials for Success in 2026. This report, based on insights gathered from a survey of over 3,000 individuals in 41 countries, offers a comprehensive analysis of the current factors influencing the European data center industry.
European data centers continue to experience strong demand, with 93% of survey participants anticipating growth in the coming year. Additionally, 78% of respondents have noted an increase in demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) in the past year. While market expansion was once the primary challenge, the focus has now shifted to determining how and where capacity can be effectively delivered. Issues such as power availability, skills shortages, planning complexities, supply chain challenges, and AI readiness are now impacting projects more significantly.
James Hart, the CEO of BCS Consultancy, highlighted the ongoing growth of Europe’s data center market, stating that delivery has become increasingly uneven. He noted, “Securing power and planning approval are no longer sufficient requirements. In 2026, these are merely the starting points. The pressure surrounding power, floor space, and rack density continues to dictate the pace at which AI demand can be translated into deployable capacity.”
