Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud Extend Partnership for Cloud Migration and AI Collaboration
Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud have announced an extension of their partnership through the end of the decade, focusing on deepening collaboration in cloud migration and AI development.
Google Cloud Named Preferred Partner for Cloud Migration
Under the new agreement, Google Cloud will serve as Deutsche Telekom’s preferred partner for migrating key business areas to the cloud. This includes the One Data Ecosystem (ODE) project, which aims to consolidate the company’s on-premises data systems and integrate AI technology into its infrastructure.
Utilizing Google’s Vertex AI Platform for Application Development
Deutsche Telekom plans to leverage Google’s Vertex AI platform to build and scale applications based on Gemini technology. This enhanced access to computing resources is expected to enable the company to respond more efficiently to customer needs.
Focus on AI-First Approach
Stefan Schloter, CIO Europe at Deutsche Telekom, highlighted the company’s shift towards an “AI-first” strategy, emphasizing the importance of agility and digital services in software engineering and customer interfaces. Initiatives such as migrating core SAP systems to Google Cloud and integrating the Gemini Multimodal Live API into the MyMagenta app demonstrate progress in the partnership.
Driving Innovation in Communication Services
Marianne Janik, VP for EMEA North at Google Cloud, emphasized the increasing role of cloud technology in driving innovation and service development for communication service providers. Google Cloud will continue to collaborate with Deutsche Telekom on developing new user-facing services.
Previous Collaborations and Future Plans
In previous collaborations, Deutsche Telekom, Google Cloud, and T-Systems launched a sovereign cloud offering in Germany in 2021. The companies also announced plans to host Deutsche Telekom’s 5G core on Google Cloud, with T-Systems managing the deployment in Germany.
Expansion of Data Centers and Infrastructure
Deutsche Telekom’s IT services arm, T-Systems, operates 16 data centers in Germany with plans to expand with five additional sites. Google Cloud has established infrastructure in Germany, with regions in Frankfurt and Berlin, and began offering sovereign storage options in partnership with StackIT.
Collaborations with Other Telecom Providers
Google Cloud’s partnerships in the telecom industry extend beyond Deutsche Telekom, including collaborations with Orange and DNA, part of the Telenor Group.
