atNorth Partners with Crusoe Energy Systems for Sustainable Data Center Solution

atNorth has recently announced an exciting new collaboration with Crusoe Energy Systems LLC, marking Crusoe’s first venture into Europe. This partnership will see Crusoe Cloud GPUs colocated in atNorth’s ICE02 data center in Iceland, showcasing a commitment to powering high-performance computing infrastructure with renewable energy sources.

Cully Cavness, Co-Founder and President of Crusoe, expressed his enthusiasm for sourcing low carbon power in Iceland, stating, “This partnership with atNorth allows us to bring the concentrated energy demand of compute infrastructure directly to the source of clean, renewable geothermal and hydro energy.”

CEO of atNorth, E. Magnús Kristinsson, emphasized the importance of collaborating with like-minded companies, highlighting Crusoe’s dedication to maximizing compute efficiency while minimizing environmental impact as a key factor in the partnership.

The ICE02 data center in Iceland harnesses over 80MW of power from sustainable geothermal and hydro energy sources, positioning the country as an ideal location for data centers. With low latency networks and redundant connectivity to North America and Europe, Iceland offers a strategic advantage for companies seeking reliable and eco-friendly data solutions.

Chris Dolan, Chief Data Center Officer at Crusoe, commented on the growing demand for data centers driven by AI and machine learning applications. He expressed excitement about the initial commitment to atNorth and hinted at potential expansion opportunities in the future.

atNorth’s recent acquisition of Gompute, a leading provider of High Performance Computing (HPC) and data center services, further solidifies their position in the sustainable data center industry. The company’s expansion with new sites in Finland and Denmark demonstrates a commitment to innovation and growth in the European market.

Overall, the partnership between atNorth and Crusoe Energy Systems represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future for data centers, showcasing the potential for clean energy solutions to power high-performance computing infrastructure.
