The demand for new data centers continues to rise, with new projects being announced regularly. Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the data center industry can be challenging due to the rapid pace of growth.

To keep you informed about the most recent news in data center design, construction, and related advancements, we have compiled the highlights from the past month. This curated selection will make it easier for you to stay informed about the latest developments in the data center industry.

In North America, the Homer City Generating Station in Pennsylvania, previously a coal-burning power plant, is set to be transformed into a major natural gas-powered data center campus capable of delivering up to 4.5 GW of power. Homer City Redevelopment and Kiewit Power Constructors Company have signed a $10 billion deal to convert the site into a state-of-the-art data center facility tailored for AI and high-performance computing.

Additionally, a coalition of major companies, including leading data center operators, has pledged to support the role of nuclear power in enhancing energy security and resiliency. Companies like Amazon, Meta, and Google are part of this initiative to triple global nuclear capacity by 2050.

Microsoft, BlackRock, and xAI are collaborating to build $30 billion worth of data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure. T5 Data Centers has expanded its presence in Chicago by acquiring a new data center site in Elk Grove Village. Intersect Power is in discussions with technology companies to build two massive data center sites in Texas to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence.

In Europe, QTS Data Centers has received approval for a £10 billion campus in Cambois, UK, consisting of 10 buildings and creating 1,600 jobs. Kao Data has unveiled a new 17.6 MW data center in Harlow, UK, designed for AI, advanced computing, and high-density GPU workloads. Digital Realty has opened FRA18, Germany’s first data center housed within a historically preserved building.

Moving to Asia-Pacific, Digital Realty has entered the Indonesian data center market through a joint venture with Bersama Digital Infrastructure Asia. Oracle Corporation is also in talks with the Indonesian government to establish a cloud services center in the country. SM+ and Korea Investment Real Asset Management have begun construction on an AI-ready data center in Jakarta’s Central Business District.

In the Middle East and Africa, Microsoft Corporation is investing an additional 5.4 billion rand in South Africa to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence capacity. Alfanar Global Development is investing $1.4 billion to develop four data centers across Riyadh and Dammam in Saudi Arabia. Cassava Technologies plans to build Africa’s first AI factory in South Africa and deploy Nvidia AI computing technology in its data centers across the region.

The Emirates Group in the UAE will relocate its data center to Moro Hub, the world’s largest solar-powered data center, starting in mid-2026. These developments highlight the continued growth and innovation in the data center industry across different regions.
