CDW Executive SummIT: 3 Ways Platform Engineering Boosts Business Velocity
SHARE

Moving swiftly in the digital world is more than just speed; it’s about being strategic. IT leaders are recognizing the importance of platform engineering in achieving digital velocity. By aligning infrastructure, development, security, and operations teams around an automated and resilient platform, businesses can grow faster and more efficiently.

Platform engineering was a hot topic at the recent CDW Executive SummIT held in Chicago from April 1-3. Experts emphasized that embracing this model is not just a technical decision but a strategic one that can drive business growth.

Here are three ways platform engineering enhances digital velocity by integrating with NetOps, SecOps, and AIOps:

1. Streamlining NetOps Automation for Faster Connectivity
Traditionally, network operations have been a hindrance in the software delivery process due to manual network provisions, static configurations, and siloed teams. Platform engineering changes this by incorporating NetOps capabilities directly into the developer platform. By leveraging Infrastructure as Code, policy-based automation, and API-driven networking, teams can provision secure network connectivity on demand. This automation not only speeds up delivery but also reduces errors in hybrid and multicloud environments. Gartner predicts that by 2026, 30% of enterprises will automate over half of their network activities.

2. Embedding SecOps for Security-by-Design Approach
Rather than treating security as an afterthought, embedding SecOps capabilities into the platform ensures that security controls are integrated into every step of the pipeline. This includes automated security scanning in continuous integration/continuous delivery workflows, role-based access controls, and runtime policy enforcement. By adopting a security-first design, businesses can meet compliance requirements more effectively and reduce delays in audits. Cisco’s XDR Security and Network Operations Center integrates security and networking operations for faster threat detection and improved cyber resilience.

3. Leveraging AIOps for Productivity
As platforms scale, traditional monitoring tools struggle to keep up with the volume of data. AIOps provides real-time insights into system behavior by utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning models. By integrating AIOps, organizations can detect anomalies, predict outages, and automate remediation. This automation reduces mean time to resolution, increases uptime, and allows IT teams to focus on strategic initiatives.

Successfully combining NetOps, SecOps, and AIOps requires considering how people, processes, and technology will work together. Decision-makers need to evaluate current operations, identify areas for collaboration, and determine the infrastructure and tools needed for convergence.

The CDW Executive SummIT highlighted the importance of platform engineering in driving digital velocity. By aligning with NetOps, SecOps, and AIOps, businesses can accelerate growth, enhance security, and improve operational efficiency.
