Zelim Chooses Pulsant as Digital Infrastructure Partner
Zelim, an Edinburgh-based maritime search and rescue innovator, has selected Pulsant as its digital infrastructure partner.
With a goal to introduce the world’s first unmanned search and rescue capability, Zelim launched ZOE Intelligent Detection in 2024. This groundbreaking technology utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze video feeds in real-time, enabling the detection and alert of individuals who fall overboard. This advancement enhances the speed and safety of search and rescue operations.
As Zelim experienced rapid growth, the need for a reliable colocation partner became evident. Initially hosting servers on-premise, Zelim recognized the high energy costs and risks associated with this setup. Threats such as power outages, fires, flooding, and theft posed a significant risk to their operations.
Any compromise to the resilience of the infrastructure could hinder Zelim’s ability to deliver life-saving services effectively.
Choosing Pulsant for Data Center Solutions
After a comprehensive evaluation of the market, Zelim opted for the Pulsant facility located in South Gyle, Edinburgh. The close proximity of the data center to Zelim’s headquarters played a crucial role in the decision-making process, as it allows for quick access to implement new hardware and ensure seamless connectivity for their operations.
Pulsant’s high-speed, low latency connection has enabled Zelim to extend their reach up to twelve nautical miles from South Gyle. This connectivity is essential for the lifesaving inference-AI feeds that Zelim relies on for their operations.
Enhancing AI Capabilities with Pulsant
Operating with Pulsant has empowered Zelim to meet the demanding requirements of AI technology. Zelim’s servers consume significant power and need to be integrated effectively to handle the influx of data from camera feeds. Additionally, maintaining high security standards and ensuring data separation has bolstered Zelim’s services and instilled confidence in their clients.
According to Doug Lothian, CTO of Zelim, “The clock starts ticking the moment someone falls into the water. Any enhancement that improves our technology’s speed, reliability, and accuracy translates to saving lives. This drove our decision to partner with Pulsant.”
Euan Cowie, software engineer at Zelim, highlighted the importance of on-premises data processing at South Gyle for optimizing performance and control over their AI-focused operations.
Future Plans and Partnerships
Zelim’s future plans involve integrating ZOE’s detection and tracking capabilities with unmanned search and rescue vessels while expanding their reach globally.
Mike Hoy, CTO of Pulsant, commended Zelim’s innovation and emphasized the significance of high-speed, high-performance infrastructure for AI-driven technologies.
As Zelim continues to grow and innovate, Pulsant stands ready to support their endeavors and contribute to their success in the industry.
