Welcome back to the latest edition of our Week in Review! This week has been jam-packed with exciting news across various tech sectors, from Amazon and Apple earnings to advancements in AI models and more. Let’s dive into the highlights!

Apple made headlines during their recent earnings call when CEO Tim Cook disclosed that the company shelled out $900 million in tariffs last quarter. Despite this significant expense, Cook did not mention any plans for price increases at this time.

In other news, Mach Industries, a defense tech startup founded by 21-year-old Ethan Thornton, is on the brink of securing a fresh $100 million in funding. This latest round of financing is expected to bring the startup’s total funding to approximately $185 million.

Alibaba also made waves this week with the announcement of their new family of AI models, dubbed Qwen3. The tech giant claims that these hybrid models can outperform industry heavyweights like OpenAI and Google. While the Qwen3 models are not yet available for download, Alibaba is already touting their superior capabilities.

On the space front, Amazon launched the first batch of 27 internet satellites this week as part of their ambitious project to create a space-based internet network. The company aims to deploy the first half of the network by mid-2026 to meet regulatory deadlines.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, unveiled a standalone AI app at their recent LlamaCon event. This app allows users to access Meta’s AI capabilities in a user-friendly format, similar to other AI assistant apps like ChatGPT.

In legal news, a judge in India issued a block on Proton Mail, an encrypted email provider, following a complaint from a local firm regarding inappropriate content. Additionally, Epic Games scored a victory against Apple in a legal dispute, with the potential return of Fortnite to iPhones on the horizon.
