XL Batteries and Prometheus Hyperscale Collaborate to Enhance Data Center Energy Resilience
In a groundbreaking move to address the surging power demand from data centers, XL Batteries and Prometheus Hyperscale have joined forces to deploy innovative long-duration energy storage systems. This partnership comes as a response to the projected 165% increase in global power demand from data centers by 2030, highlighting the crucial need for reliable energy solutions in the face of aging infrastructure and growing renewable energy adoption.
XL Batteries’ cutting-edge non-lithium long-duration energy storage technology will play a pivotal role in enhancing energy resilience, managing power quality, and reducing carbon emissions at Prometheus data centers. The deployment of XL Batteries’ Organic Flow Batteryâ„¢ at Prometheus facilities will allow for safe energy storage and efficient energy discharge on-site, ensuring smooth compute load operations even in the face of demanding fluctuations.
"We need batteries that offer performance at or above lithium, without the risk of overheating to deploy at our data halls," remarked Trenton Thornock, Founder and CEO of Prometheus Hyperscale. "XL Batteries’ organic flow battery technology offers a scalable, long-duration, non-toxic energy storage solution that will help us to deliver the next generation of AI data centers."
The partnership will kick off with the installation of a 333 kW demonstration-scale standalone Organic Flow Battery at Prometheus’ Wyoming facility in 2027. Following this, Prometheus plans to acquire two 12.5 MW / 125 MWh commercial-scale systems in 2028 and 2029, respectively. This collaboration sets the stage for future deployments of XL’s technology at Prometheus facilities, positioning the data center giant as a leader in next-generation data center resilience and sustainability.
XL Batteries’ Organic Flow Battery stands out for its non-toxic, non-flammable, and non-corrosive composition, making it an ideal choice for Prometheus’ cutting-edge hyperscale data centers. The patented chemistry, derived from abundant and geographically diverse materials, ensures price stability and insulates Prometheus from supply chain fluctuations and geopolitical risks.
"The deployment of our technology at one of the largest hyperscale campuses in the world validates our vision and accelerates our path to large-scale commercial impact," stated Tom Sisto, CEO and co-founder of XL Batteries. This strategic partnership underscores both companies’ commitment to pioneering innovative solutions that set a new standard for sustainable infrastructure, paving the way for a greener and more resilient future in the data center industry.
