    Article:

Leading the Way in Data Center Cooling Solutions

In the fast-paced world of data centers, where high-performance computing and AI technologies continue to push the boundaries of innovation, the need for effective cooling solutions has never been more critical. Traditional air-cooling methods are increasingly unable to keep up with the heat generated by powerful components, leading to the rise of innovative liquid cooling solutions like Shell’s new DLC Fluid S3.

Designed to complement Shell’s existing immersion cooling fluid portfolio, the propylene glycol-based Shell DLC Fluid S3 offers exceptional heat transfer performance, solidifying Shell’s position as a leader in the data center liquid cooling market. This new fluid is specifically formulated to target high heat load components, such as CPUs and GPUs, ensuring that densely packed server racks can operate at optimal temperatures without the need for energy-consuming air conditioning.

One of the key advantages of Shell DLC Fluid S3 is its ability to improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by up to 27% compared to traditional air-cooling methods. By directly cooling high-performance components and meeting all Open Compute Project (OCP) PG25 coolant specifications, including material compatibility standards, this fluid helps protect equipment warranties by eliminating direct contact with the microprocessor.

What sets Shell DLC Fluid S3 apart is its long-term corrosion protection for all DLC cooling systems, including aluminium, brass, cast iron, steel, solder, and copper. The fluid’s excellent heat transfer performance, compatibility with a wide range of materials, extended fluid life, easy leak detection, and freeze protection down to sub-zero temperatures make it a standout solution for modern data centers.

According to Aysun Akik, VP of New Business Development and Global Key Accounts at Shell Lubricants, Shell DLC Fluid S3 represents the future of data center cooling. With a focus on performance, sustainability, and reliability, Shell is committed to providing innovative liquid cooling solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern data centers. Backed by Shell’s global footprint and technology development hubs worldwide, Shell DLC Fluid S3 is poised to lead the way in powering the digital infrastructure of tomorrow.
