WWDC 2025: A Sneak Peek at the Future of Apple Technology

Apple’s annual developers conference, WWDC 2025, kicks off at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET on Monday. Last year’s event focused on AI, and this year, Apple faces the challenge of building on its previous promises amidst negative headlines. The pressure is on the company to change the narrative and deliver exciting updates. Learn more about what to expect at this year’s WWDC 2025.

Apple’s WWDC 2025 is set to unveil significant updates and new technologies, including the highly anticipated redesign of iOS. Reports suggest that the upcoming iOS version could feature elements inspired by visionOS, the software behind Apple’s spatial computing headset, the Apple Vision Pro. This redesign might introduce a transparent interface and circular app icons, deviating from the traditional square format.

Additionally, Apple is rumored to introduce a new naming system for its operating systems, shifting from version numbers to naming by year. This means we could see the launch of iOS 26 instead of the expected iOS 19, alongside updates for other Apple products like adOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.

While the focus on AI at WWDC 2024 was substantial, Apple may keep AI announcements light this year. The company has faced criticism for delayed AI capabilities like an improved Siri experience. Reports suggest that Apple could announce support for other AI chatbots and incorporate AI technology into apps like Health and Messages to enhance user experiences.

Furthermore, iPhone users might anticipate a dedicated gaming app to replace the Game Center app. This new gaming app could integrate with Apple Arcade and offer features like leaderboards, recommendations, and remote gaming options via iMessage or FaceTime.

Updates are also expected for Apple’s other operating systems, including macOS and Apple TV. macOS may receive the new gaming app and AirPods features, while Apple TV could undergo a visual overhaul with user interface enhancements and the introduction of the gaming app.

Reports suggest that AirPods will receive new features, such as live-translate language capabilities and head gestures for improved user interactions. Additionally, Apple Pencil is rumored to receive updates catering to users in regions like UAE, Saudi Arabia, and India, with virtual calligraphy features and bi-directional keyboard support.

Despite no hardware rumors, Apple may announce support for spatial controllers for its Vision Pro, enhancing user interaction in a 3D environment. Speculation also surrounds the unveiling of a smart home tablet with voice-activated controls and video call support. The software for this device, known as “HomeOS,” could potentially be introduced at WWDC.
