Android may soon adopt a long-awaited feature that has been a standout on iPhones for years. Google is reportedly developing an App Cast feature in Google Play Services, allowing users to stream apps from other devices. This move seems to be Google’s answer to Apple’s Handoff, enabling seamless transitions between iOS and MacOS devices. The upcoming Android Handoff feature promises multi-device syncing, notification syncing across devices, media and file sharing, and remote access to apps on your primary device.

What can we expect from Android Handoff?

Scrutinizing the App Cast code, Android Authority discovered hints about Google’s Handoff initiative and multi-device syncing capabilities. The feature will synchronize notifications across your Google account-linked devices and enable media and file sharing. Moreover, users will have the ability to access apps remotely from their primary device.

Since the code hints at integration within Google Play Services, it suggests that Android Handoff will extend beyond Google’s Pixel devices to a broader range of Android devices. This inclusivity is beneficial for users with devices from various brands, promoting seamless cross-brand compatibility. Despite the delayed introduction of this feature, Google’s move to incorporate Handoff functionality aligns with the demand for interconnected digital experiences. Apple’s pioneering Handoff feature has been a key selling point for its ecosystem, emphasizing the significance of seamless device integration in the modern tech landscape.
