This week has seen a flurry of activity in the startup world, with updates on lawsuits, mergers and acquisitions taking center stage.

AI agents: In a strategic move, data cybersecurity company Rubrik has acquired Predibase to enhance the use of AI agents among its user base. Predibase, a startup specializing in optimizing AI models, had previously raised $28 million in venture capital funding. Although the exact deal amount remains undisclosed, reports suggest it was substantial.

Sailing: German startup Kadmos, known for its innovative salary payment platform for seafaring workers, recently got acquired by NYK Line, a Japanese shipping firm looking to expand its fintech services. Kadmos had previously raised $38 million in external funding.

Red herring? AI music startup Suno made headlines with its acquisition of WavTool, a browser-based AI digital audio workstation. While the deal actually took place a few months ago, Suno chose to announce it amidst ongoing copyright disputes.

Unstable ground: Getty Images made waves by dropping its primary lawsuit against Stability AI, the company behind the AI image generator Stable Diffusion. However, legal battles persist in both the U.S. and the U.K., adding to the drama.

Weathering the storm: Despite facing challenges, Airloom Energy, backed by Bill Gates, remains resilient and has commenced construction on its first wind power plant in Wyoming.

Another eventful week in the world of startups, with a notable $300 million funding round making headlines. Let’s dive into some of the key highlights:

Same amount, new valuation: Harvey AI closed a $300 million Series E round co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Coatue. Just four months ago, Sequoia led a $300 million Series D round at a $3 billion valuation. The AI-enabled legal tech startup’s valuation has now soared to $5 billion.

AI scribe: Abridge, a leading AI startup specializing in automating medical notes, secured a $300 million Series E round led by a16z, valuing the company at $5.3 billion.

Crypto predictions: Kalshi, a blockchain-based prediction market platform, raised $185 million at a post-money valuation of $2 billion. Meanwhile, rival Polymarket is reportedly finalizing a $200 million round at a pre-money valuation of around $1 billion.

Money in the bank: Finom, a challenger bank catering to SMBs in Europe, raised $133 million in a Series C round, adding to the $105 million in growth funding it recently secured from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund.

Flying high: Indian drone startup Raphe mPhibr raised $100 million in an all-equity Series B round led by General Catalyst, with a client roster including the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and armed police forces.

Easy dictation: Wispr Flow, an AI-powered dictation app, secured $30 million in a Series A round, bringing its total funding to $56 million. The company also launched an iOS app earlier this month.

Upcycled: Novoloop, a startup focused on upcycling waste plastic, raised $21 million in a Series B round to kickstart construction of its first commercial-scale plant.

Data processing for AI: Eventual, inspired by a data-processing challenge faced at Lyft, raised $27.5 million across two funding rounds within eight months.

AI voices: Berlin-based Synthflow AI, a no-code platform enabling enterprises to build custom white-label voice AI customer service agents, closed a $20 million Series A round led by Accel.

As the name suggests: Better Auth, the third Ethiopian startup to graduate from YC, secured $5 million in seed funding. Their open-source framework streamlines user authentication for developers and has gained rapid popularity.

Eternal light: Lux Aeterna, a space startup, emerged from stealth mode with $4 million in pre-seed funding and plans to launch a reusable satellite in 2027.
