Empowering Sizewell C: VodafoneThree’s Connectivity Solutions

VodafoneThree has secured a key role as a primary contractor for the groundbreaking Sizewell C nuclear power station project in Suffolk. This 3.2GW facility aims to provide 7% of the UK’s electricity needs, significantly reducing carbon emissions and ensuring low-carbon energy for millions of homes.

In collaboration with Fern Communications, now part of OEG, VodafoneThree is set to enhance communication capabilities at the Sizewell C site. The deployment of two 5G masts will ensure robust mobile coverage within the construction zone and neighboring communities, with seamless radio connectivity to prevent any disruptions.

The implementation of advanced 5G and fiber infrastructure at Sizewell C will facilitate improved coordination and data sharing among workers, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and safety. This connectivity project, initiated in November 2024, is expected to elevate the overall performance of the site.

Furthermore, the enhanced mobile services at Sizewell C will benefit local businesses and residents by providing better access to digital resources, potentially stimulating economic growth in the area.

According to Damian Leydon, Sizewell C Site Delivery Director, a reliable connection is crucial for maintaining high safety and efficiency standards on-site. Partnering with VodafoneThree and Fern Communications will ensure that the necessary communication infrastructure is in place, benefiting both the project and the local community through the provision of 5G connectivity.

Sizewell C, a project supported by government funding, holds significant importance in the UK’s clean energy objectives. It is expected to create 1,500 apprenticeships and drive economic growth by channeling construction value to British suppliers, including local entities like Fern Communications.

With substantial investments already made in UK suppliers, the partnership between VodafoneThree and Sizewell C opens up new opportunities for Suffolk regions, showcasing the pivotal role of local businesses in supporting vital infrastructural projects.

Noteworthy is VodafoneThree’s involvement beyond Sizewell C, as they also contribute their expertise to SP Energy Networks’ initiatives, aligning with the country’s net zero targets. Serving as the designated connectivity partner for Hinkley Point C in Somerset, VodafoneThree continues to shape the energy landscape across the UK.
