Alt Carbon Secures $12M in Seed Funding for Climate Action Agri Infrastructure
Alt Carbon, a science and data company based in Bangalore, India, has recently raised $12 million in seed funding. The funding round was led by Lachy Groom, with participation from ACT, Shastra VC, and other investors and angels.
Innovative Carbon Removal Method and Flagship Initiative
Led by CEO Shrey Agarwal, Alt Carbon is pioneering a new carbon removal method called Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW). This method involves using waste basalt rock dust to improve soil health, increase crop yields, and naturally remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The company’s flagship initiative, the Darjeeling Revival Project, focuses on uniting climate action with cultural and ecological restoration.
Expansion Plans and Key Appointments
With the newly acquired funds, Alt Carbon plans to accelerate Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) efforts in the Global South, expand earth sciences R&D, and scale up operations in India. The company has also appointed key individuals such as Yashovardhan Bhagat as Chief Operating Officer and Dr. Sourav Ganguly to lead the science and modelling team, showcasing their commitment to driving durable climate action.
