Smartwatches have evolved significantly over the years, offering a wide range of features and capabilities. The Amazfit Active 2 is a budget-friendly option that stands out for its impressive features and design. I have tested this smartwatch for the past six months, and here is my experience.
The Amazfit Active 2 punches above its weight and stands out as an excellent budget smartwatch
Design & Build
- Available in sport and premium versions
- Features a stainless steel case
- Measures 9.9mm and weighs 29.5g
The Amazfit Active 2 has undergone a redesign, moving from a square aluminum casing to a round stainless steel case, giving it a more premium look. While the design may not appeal to everyone, it offers a classic look and a lightweight build.
It boasts a classic design and lightweight build, making it comfortable to wear
However, some users may find it less comfortable to wear compared to premium smartwatches, as the casing’s sensors may protrude more than usual. Additionally, the silicone strap on the standard model may be slightly cumbersome to secure. Nevertheless, you have the option to upgrade to the premium model with a leather strap or swap it for a different 20mm quick-release strap.
The Active 2 features two control buttons on the right edge for accessing apps and workouts. It lacks a rotating crown, so navigation is done primarily through the touchscreen. The smartwatch is rated waterproof up to 50m, a notable feature at this price point.
Screen & Audio
- 1.32-inch AMOLED display
- 466 x 466 resolution
- Standard model features tempered glass; premium model features sapphire glass
The Active 2 is equipped with a vibrant AMOLED display, offering good color reproduction and brightness. While not the best in its class, the display provides a satisfactory viewing experience both indoors and outdoors. The touchscreen is responsive and sharp, with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels.

The standard model features 2.5D curved glass, which may be susceptible to scuffs and scratches over time. Opting for the premium model with sapphire glass can provide better durability and protection against damage.
The Active 2 offers an Always-On display option, allowing users to choose between following the selected watch face or using a different style. It is recommended to enable this feature judiciously, as it can impact battery life. The smartwatch’s audio quality is adequate but may be improved by using headphones rather than relying on the built-in speakers.
Software & FeaturesÂ
- Compatible with Android 7.0 and above, iOS 14.0 and above
- Intuitive navigation and user-friendly
- Utilizes the Zepp app
The Amazfit Active 2 is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, offering a versatile user experience. While there are some differences in features between the two platforms, such as quick replies for iOS users and smartphone camera control for Android users, the overall functionality remains consistent.
Running on Amazfit’s ZeppOS 4.5, the Active 2 provides a straightforward interface for easy navigation. Users can access settings, widgets for weather and health metrics, and smartphone notifications with simple swipes on the touchscreen.
While some features like automatic workout tracking may require manual activation for specific workout types, the overall user experience is seamless and efficient.

Notifications are efficiently managed, and the app store offers a variety of third-party apps and games. The smartwatch features a voice assistant called Zepp Flow, which provides basic functionalities like weather updates and message reading. While not as comprehensive as other voice assistants, Zepp Flow adds convenience to the user experience.
It is important to note that the standard Active 2 model does not support Zepp Pay for contactless payments. Users interested in this feature should consider purchasing the premium model.
Fitness & Tracking
- Offers 164 sports modes
- Includes heart rate, VO2 Max, and sleep tracking
- Provides offline maps
The Amazfit Active 2 excels in health and fitness tracking, offering a wide range of features such as heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, heart rate variability, and sleep tracking. Additionally, the smartwatch provides daily readiness scores, sleep scores, and stress tracking.
In my testing, the daily readiness scores of the Active 2 closely aligned with those of the Oura Ring 4, providing consistent and reliable data. However, there were slight discrepancies in heart rate accuracy compared to other trackers, prompting the option to use an external heart rate monitor for enhanced precision.
The data is presented clearly and comprehensively, both on the smartwatch and in the Zepp app
