Breaking Out of Silos for Sustainable Digital Infrastructure

In a recent panel discussion at Data Centre World in London, our CMO and VP of Sales – EMEA, Arun Shenoy, collaborated with Louise Bunting from Carbon Net Neutral Technology to discuss “Full Stack Collaboration for Decarbonizing Digital Infrastructure: An Applications to Data Centers Perspective.” The focus was on breaking down barriers between IT and data centers to drive sustainability efforts. Let’s delve deeper into the key points covered during the panel.

The Need for Full Stack Collaboration in Sustainability

Addressing the challenge of carbon emissions and digital sustainability requires a multifaceted approach that involves both internal and external perspectives. Externally, the data center industry must improve communication about its operations and leverage digital technology to accelerate decarbonization efforts. Internally, there is a pressing need to bridge the gap between IT and data centers that have developed over the past few decades.

Understanding the Power Context

To grasp the scale of the challenge, it’s essential to consider the amount of power consumed by data centers. In the FLAP markets (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris), there is approximately 2.7GW of built electricity capacity, with 2.4GW currently in use. These numbers are projected to increase significantly, underscoring the importance of collaboration between IT and data centers to minimize the environmental impact.

Collaboration for Carbon Reduction

Reducing operational carbon emissions requires a collaborative effort to break down silos and find innovative solutions. By aligning the priorities of IT, a technology-driven sector, and data centers, which are primarily focused on real estate, organizations can work towards higher utilization of resources to achieve sustainability goals. This collaboration entails optimizing space utilization, modernizing infrastructure, and fostering a culture of sustainability within both IT and data center teams.

Time Perspective Shift

One of the key challenges in bridging the gap between IT and real estate perspectives is reconciling different time horizons. IT operates on short-term timelines, focusing on immediate needs and rapid scalability, while data centers plan for long-term asset management spanning several decades. Finding common ground and fostering flexibility between these divergent timeframes is crucial for driving sustainable practices.

The Role of Data in Sustainability

Central to the conversation on sustainability is the role of data in informing decision-making. By leveraging power, space, and temperature data, both IT and data center teams can optimize resource utilization and drive efficiency. Transparency, collaboration, and data-driven insights are essential for initiating meaningful sustainability conversations and driving progress in decarbonizing digital infrastructure.

In conclusion, the journey towards sustainable digital infrastructure begins with breaking down silos, condensing time horizons, and leveraging data to drive efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. By fostering collaboration between IT and data center teams, organizations can pave the way for a more sustainable future. Arun and Louise highlighted these critical aspects during their session at Data Centre World London, sparking conversations and driving initiatives towards a greener, more sustainable digital ecosystem. Title: “Ultimate Guide to Improving Your Website’s SEO Ranking”

In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence is essential for any business or individual looking to reach a wider audience. Search engine optimization (SEO) plays a crucial role in ensuring that your website is visible to potential customers and ranks higher in search engine results. By optimizing your website for SEO, you can increase your website’s visibility, drive more traffic, and ultimately boost your online presence.

Here are some key strategies to help you improve your website’s SEO ranking:

1. Conduct keyword research: Keywords are the foundation of SEO. By conducting thorough keyword research, you can identify the terms and phrases that your target audience is searching for online. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush to find relevant keywords with high search volume and low competition.

2. Optimize your website’s content: Once you have identified your target keywords, incorporate them strategically into your website’s content. Make sure to include keywords in your meta titles, meta descriptions, headings, and body content. However, avoid keyword stuffing, as this can harm your website’s SEO ranking.

3. Improve your website’s loading speed: Website loading speed is a crucial factor that can impact your website’s SEO ranking. Slow-loading websites tend to have higher bounce rates and lower search engine rankings. To improve your website’s loading speed, optimize images, minify CSS and JavaScript files, and leverage browser caching.

4. Create high-quality backlinks: Backlinks are links from other websites that point to your website. High-quality backlinks from reputable websites can improve your website’s authority and credibility in the eyes of search engines. Reach out to industry influencers, guest post on relevant websites, and participate in online forums to build backlinks.

5. Optimize your website for mobile devices: With the increasing use of mobile devices, it is crucial to ensure that your website is mobile-friendly. Google now prioritizes mobile-friendly websites in its search results, so optimizing your website for mobile devices can improve your SEO ranking.
