Article:

Vertically integrated AI infrastructure provider Crusoe has recently announced a significant expansion of its operations in collaboration with Nordic data center specialist atNorth. This expansion involves increasing capacity at atNorth’s ICE02 facility in Iceland while also securing a substantial $175 million credit facility from Victory Park Capital (VPC), a global investment firm specializing in private credit.

The decision to expand operations at the ICE02 facility in Iceland underscores the growing demand for AI-ready infrastructure and the increasing focus on utilizing clean energy solutions for large-scale computing. Situated in Iceland, the ICE02 facility is powered entirely by renewable geothermal and hydroelectric energy, making it an ideal location for high-performance infrastructure deployments. Crusoe’s expansion will integrate NVIDIA’s most advanced GPU technology, such as NVIDIA DGX GB200 NVL72 instances and Blackwell GPUs, supported by Direct Liquid to Chip (DLC) cooling for enhanced efficiency. This new capacity aims to cater to Crusoe Cloud customers in both Europe and North America, meeting the rising demand for scalable and sustainable AI infrastructure.

Crusoe’s co-founder and CEO, Chase Lochmiller, highlighted the company’s commitment to clean energy and its mission to run infrastructure for intelligence. He expressed excitement about the credit facility from Victory Park Capital, enabling the acceleration of deploying advanced GPU hardware to meet market demand for Crusoe Cloud. The partnership with atNorth allows Crusoe to leverage Iceland’s abundant geothermal and hydroelectric power to build energy-first AI infrastructure, enabling customers to run their most demanding AI workloads on Crusoe Cloud.

For atNorth, the expansion signifies the importance of sustainable operations in the data center sector. Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth, emphasized the facility’s use of DLC cooling technology, which not only enhances performance but also reduces energy consumption. The ICE02 site’s expansion will feature cutting-edge infrastructure and highly energy-efficient cooling technology, aligning with both companies’ sustainability commitment.

Victory Park Capital (VPC), the firm behind the $175 million credit facility, recognizes Crusoe’s vertically integrated approach as a key differentiator in the competitive market. Connell Hasten, a partner at VPC, commended Crusoe’s mission to power the future of AI with clean energy and acknowledged the company’s unique position to efficiently support large-scale GPU clusters through AI-optimized data centers.

The expansion in Iceland is part of Crusoe’s broader European strategy, which commenced in late 2023 and has since expanded to include additional capacity in Norway. The ICE02 site offers low-latency connectivity and full redundancy through multiple undersea fiber optic cables, making it well-suited for transatlantic operations. This strategic placement ensures that enterprises in both Europe and North America can access Crusoe’s infrastructure reliably.

Crusoe Cloud, the company’s platform, is designed to offer a cost-effective, enterprise-grade environment for running advanced AI workloads. With state-of-the-art GPU clusters, the platform prioritizes innovation over infrastructure management, providing reliability, scalability, and support for engineers, developers, and data scientists.

The combined momentum of renewable-powered expansion and fresh financial support reflects a broader trend in the AI infrastructure industry: the drive to deliver high-density compute while addressing sustainability challenges. By aligning capital, advanced technology, and green energy, Crusoe aims to establish itself as a leading provider of next-generation cloud resources tailored to AI and high-performance computing.
