Indigenous communities in Alberta, Canada are expressing concerns over restrictions that they believe are hindering investment in new data centers crucial for the advancement of artificial intelligence technology. The Enoch Cree, Alexis Nakota Sioux, Alexander, and Paul First Nations have reached out to Premier Danielle Smith, stating that recent limits on data center access to the power grid will impede their ability to benefit from the AI boom.

The Indigenous communities in Alberta’s province are voicing their opposition to restrictions that they feel are obstructing investments in new data centers essential for the growth of artificial intelligence. The Enoch Cree, Alexis Nakota Sioux, Alexander, and Paul First Nations have written a letter to Premier Danielle Smith, expressing their concerns that the recently imposed constraints on data center access to the power grid will hinder their communities’ efforts to capitalize on the AI expansion.
