Data4 Signs 12-Year Nuclear Production Allocation Contract with EDF

Data4, a prominent European data center operator, has recently made a significant stride towards sustainable energy consumption by entering into a twelve-year Nuclear Production Allocation Contract (CAPN) with EDF, a leading energy company in France. This partnership underscores Data4’s dedication to a decarbonized and competitive electricity supply throughout their infrastructure in the country, marking them as the first data center operator in France to establish such an agreement with EDF.

Key Points:

  • Data4 secures 40 MW from EDF’s operational nuclear fleet over a 12-year period, with a cost and risk-sharing mechanism based on produced volumes.
  • The initial deliveries are set to begin in 2026, with an estimated yearly delivery of around 230 GWh.
  • This collaboration complements Data4’s current long-term power purchase agreements for solar and wind energy, ensuring a sustainable electricity supply that aids in reducing carbon emissions and meeting environmental goals.

By diversifying their energy sources, Data4 not only ensures a consistent and predictable energy cost but also gains stability in an ever-changing energy market. This long-term contract empowers the French operator to secure a competitive energy supply, enabling them to confidently pursue future investments while reducing their carbon footprint.

Through this venture, Data4 reaffirms their commitment to meeting customer expectations and addressing climate concerns. This strategic move aligns with their broader objective of incorporating low-carbon and renewable energy solutions across their operations, essential in catering to the growing demands of the digital economy and artificial intelligence sector.

Quote:

“We are extremely proud to sign this first low-carbon CAPN with EDF, a long-standing partner and a key player in France’s energy transition,” shared François StĂ©rin, Data4’s Chief Operating Officer. “This contract not only reflects a strong environmental commitment but also serves as a cornerstone of our growth and competitiveness strategy. Combined with our renewable energy agreements, it ensures reliable, resilient, and continuous access to low-carbon energy at a controlled long-term cost—an advantage for our clients and infrastructure development.”

Marc Benayoun also emphasized the significance of this collaboration in providing Data4 with a competitive and reliable electricity supply, aligning with EDF’s objectives of supporting data center development and contributing to energy and industrial sovereignty in France.
