Delska, a leading data center operator in Northern Europe, is set to launch its new facility, EU North Riga LV DC1, by the end of this year. Recently, the facility achieved the prestigious Uptime Institute Tier III Design Certification, marking a significant step towards its opening. This state-of-the-art data center will stand out as one of the most environmentally friendly in the Baltic region.
The Tier III Design certification ensures that the facility adheres to stringent standards for redundancy, safety, and continuous service, ensuring an impressive uptime of 99.982%. Delska’s CEO, Andris Gailitis, emphasized the importance of this certification in maintaining uninterrupted infrastructure, even during scheduled maintenance.
Designed to address power challenges in major European hubs, the 10 MW site offers up to 250 kW per rack and is equipped to handle next-generation workloads such as AI and high-performance computing (HPC). With a modular 6,000 m² layout that is fully scalable, the data center campus site has the potential to expand up to 30 MW.
At the heart of the design is sustainability. The facility will operate entirely on 100% wind energy, with backup generators fueled by Neste MY renewable diesel. With a target PUE of just 1.3, innovative features such as advanced free-cooling systems, hot-aisle containment, Weiss Technik wall cooling system, and Trane Turbocor-based chillers will be employed. The data center will support both air cooling and high-density direct-to-chip cooling. Additionally, Delska aims to achieve LEED green building certification, a distinction held by a select few buildings in Latvia.
Following construction, LV DC1 will undergo Tier III Facility certification to ensure that its operations meet the same high standards as its design. This will mark Delska’s third Tier III-certified data center and sixth overall, including two Tier III Facility-certified sites in Lithuania. Future plans involve the development of another data center in Lithuania and an additional facility in the region, further solidifying Delska’s network of Baltic data centers.
