Exploring the latest iPhone 17 has been a delightful experience as a reviewer for Tech Advisor. The base model this year is truly impressive, with significant upgrades that bring it close to the Pro model while maintaining last year’s price point and offering extra storage.
Transitioning from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 17 has introduced me to exciting features like Dynamic Island and the Action button, which I have been thoroughly enjoying.
Customizing Your Action Button
Within the Settings menu, users can customize their Action button, located on the left side of the iPhone. Apple provides default actions such as toggling Silent Mode, switching to Focus mode, activating the torch, magnifying, identifying songs, and translating.
But what if you want your Action button to perform multiple functions or something entirely unique?
Setting Up Shortcuts
Shortcuts offer a solution for customizing the Action button to suit your preferences. By creating shortcuts, users can perform tasks like identifying songs, silencing the phone, or controlling smart home devices with a single button press.
Steps to Create Shortcuts
1. Open the Shortcuts Folder
Locate the Shortcuts app on your device to access the Library, Automation, and Gallery tabs. Create a new folder within the Library tab and name it accordingly, possibly including “Action” in the title for easy identification.
2. Create a New Folder
In the Library tab, click on the new folder icon to create a customized folder for your shortcuts. Choose a relevant name and icon to personalize the folder.
3. Choose Actions for Your Action Button
Once the folder is created, add actions to it by clicking on the plus symbol in the top right corner. Use keywords to search for specific actions that you want your Action button to perform. Customize it based on your preferences, such as switching to silent mode, identifying songs, or controlling smart home devices.
4. Set Up Your Action Button
Link the shortcuts you created to the Action button by navigating to the main Settings menu, selecting the Action Button option, and choosing the shortcut you just set up. This step ensures that your Action button is configured to perform the desired actions.
5. You’re Done!
With your customized shortcuts in place, pressing the Action button will give you access to the selected actions, allowing for quick and convenient task execution.
