FM Launches FM Intellium Program to Address Evolving Risks in Data Centre and Power Generation Industry

Commercial property insurer FM has introduced the FM Intellium program to tackle the challenges posed by the rapidly changing risk landscape driven by the surge in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing. This shift has led to an increased demand for data centres and power generation facilities to support these technological advancements.

Rising Demand for Data Centers and Power Generation

The rise of AI and other computer-driven technologies has fueled a boom in data centre construction. ResearchAndMarkets.com predicts that data centre construction in North America will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8.1% through 2030. As technology continues to evolve, the demand for power generation to support these infrastructures is also on the rise.

FM’s Response to Industry Challenges

With over 25 years of experience in insuring data centres and power generation facilities, FM is ramping up its efforts to invest in loss prevention engineering and research to better protect its clients worldwide. To support this initiative, FM has established a virtual on-demand resource unit that can deploy subject matter experts to address inquiries promptly, regardless of location.

By leveraging its extensive data and engineering expertise, FM can assess data risks in conjunction with power and infrastructure projects, offering comprehensive solutions to address engineering interdependencies, both operational and pre-construction.

Ensuring Operational Confidence in Data Centers

FM’s Chief Operating Officer, Randy Hodge, emphasizes the importance of maintaining operational confidence in data centres amidst the ongoing shift to cloud computing and AI expansion. With a focus on resilience and loss prevention, FM aims to support clients in critical sectors as technology continues to evolve.

FM has a long history of insuring data centres, currently protecting around 1,100 facilities with a total insurable value of US$250 billion. The company’s engineers dedicate approximately 30,000 hours each year to collaborating with leading data centre providers, while its research teams focus on enhancing data centre reliability across various aspects such as power accessibility, cooling systems, and equipment protection.

Commitment to Industry Partnership

Through its latest program, FM reaffirms its commitment to supporting clients in the data centre industry as they navigate the evolving risks and challenges within the sector. By offering unique solutions for site selection hazards, cooling and power issues, and equipment protection, FM aims to be a valuable partner for clients in the data centre and power generation industry.
